Sharm el Sheikh, Red Sea Diving Holiday

25th February to 4th March 2015

THIS TRIP HAS NOW FINISHED

Why not come to the Red Sea with us in November instead?

VIEW THE PHOTOS FROM OUR TRIP TO MARSA ALAM IN 2014

red sea sharm el sheikh diving holidayThere has never been a better time to visit Sharm el Sheikh. At this time of the year the crowds have disappeared and the diving is probably the best it's been for 20 years.

Sharm has something for every level of diver; shallow sheltered coral reefs, drop offs, walls, night dives, drift dives, wrecks, big fish, little fish but alas no cardboard boxes.

The most famous dive sites in the area are:

Ras Muhammad National Marine Park - This is home to 'Shark Reef', one of the top ten dives in the world. At the tip of the South Sinai Peninsula it is where several currents meet at once bringing in lots of nutrients, which in turn attracts marine life of all shapes and sizes and around 220 species of coral.

SS Thistlegorm - This is probably the most famous diveable wreck in the world and is on nearly ever scuba diver's bucket list. This British supply ship was sank by the Germans during WWII, it still contains it's cargo of motorbikes, bedford trucks, plane wings, steam engines and ammunition. This dive is only suitable for Advanced Open Water divers (which you can complete out there). Watch the video.

The Blue Hole, Dahab - This is another truly famous dive that you will remember for years to come. The light that penetrates through the hole is breathtaking, watch the free divers as they descend down in to the blue.

Diving & Snorkelling

Any visit to the Red Sea wouldn't be complete without discovering the incredible variety of life and colour beneath the waves. Sharm el Sheikh dive sites cover a vast area from the Straits of Tiran in the north to the famous wreck of the SS. Thistlegorm and the Dunraven in the south in the Gulf of Suez.  With so many dive sites available and all within easy reach of the hotel, we can offer you a huge variety; from pretty shallow coral gardens to dramatic drop-offs.

We will be diving each day, courtesy vehicles will take us between the hotel and the marina/dive centre. The dive centre offer a range of packages and courses for qualified divers as well as absolute beginners.

Diving Highlights

Strait Of TiranStraights of Tiran

This dive location can be found in the middle of the Gulf of Aqaba approximately one and a half hours by boat from Naama Bay.
Only accessible by boat it is still well preserved compared to some of the local dive sites on the coastline. Four coral reefs lined up in a row are visible on the surface, actually the top of a huge coral reef back growing out of the depth.

Ras Mohammed

Ras Mohammed National Park and Marine reserve is an outstanding area of natural beauty on land and underwater.  The area is considered significant for Marine biologists due to the diverse range of marine and coral life sustained by the two bodies of water that merge here; The Gulf of Suez and The Gulf of Aqaba.

The park is protected by marine park laws which all divers must abide by to ensure the survival of such a delicate eco-system.  All of the dives are accessible by boat and a couple can be dived by shore.  A daily boat trip to Ras Mohammed National Park is a must on any SCUBA diving holiday to Sharm el Shiekh.

Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef are rated as one of the top ten dives in the world and is perhaps the most famous dive site of the Ras Mohammed National Park.  The two reefs rise up from untold depths to the surface making a breath-taking, stunning and dramatic topography.

The dive is completed as a drift dive and is normally started in the direction of Shark Reef to Yolanda.  With this dive it is important to be quick on the entry as otherwise it is possible to drift on the surface and miss the most amazing wall.

It is a sheer drop down to 800 meters plus.  Hanging out on the wall are snappers, bat fish, barracuda and many more especially when they mass together in the July/August peak period.  It’s like diving in fish soup.

The current takes you around to the ‘saddle’ the connecting reef between to two vast pinnacles.  Depending on the currents your dive guide will guide you around the front of Yolanda Reef. Look out into the blue as there are often large pelagic fish passing.  The dive finishes on the remains of the wreck of the ‘Yolanda’.  This dive can be a roller coaster ride of currents, which turn every which way during the dive – but it is an adrenalin pumping awesome experience.

wreck thistlegorm red seaThe Thistlegorm

The Thistlegorm was built in 1940 as a merchant vessel being 126m long and 17.5m wide. It was commandeered by the navy during the World War II.
In October 1941 the vessel had made its way round Africa and into the Red Sea. Loaded down with supplies destined for North Africa. It anchored in the holding area before moving towards the Suez Canal.
The anchorage is 5 miles wide between the Sinai Peninsula and the reef ‘Shaab Ali’ where the sea bottom is flat at around 30m.
In the early hours of the 6th October two German bombers from Crete found her and other vessels anchored there. The bombs landed in number four hold, which contained ammunition, ripping the stern section off and folding some of the deck back on itself. The ship went down and landed upright.
The wreck was first dived by Cousteau in the 50′s. However its position was not rediscovered until the early 90′s. Since then it has become one of the best wrecks to dive. The holds are open and easily accessed showing the full range of cargo carried. Like trucks, motorbikes, plane wings and engines, trains and tenders, Wellington boots and waders!!, ammunition, armoured vehicles.
The wreck is exposed to the tidal currents and the prevailing winds, which can make this dive inaccessible at times. These conditions and the depth of the dive means that this is only open to experienced divers.
This trip is done as a very early start of 04:15 as the journey is about 4 hours. This gives enough time to do 2 dives on the wreck and return by 18:00.

SS-ThistlegormThe Thistlegorm
